Celtic fans have been reacting to RB Leipzig’s Champions League last-16 first-leg win at Tottenham last night, with many quick to remind Spurs of what happened last year.
Yes, Leipzig may be reaching dizzy heights under Julian Nagelsmann. However, 12 months ago they were smarting under Ralf Rangnick after being dumped out of the Europa League by Celtic in the group stages.

The result yesterday has proven to be a mini-victory for Scottish football after seeing that same club manage to beat one of England’s heavyweights on their own patch. This comes after Leipzig lost 2-1 at Celtic Park last season.
Some Celtic fans have been quick to let Spurs fans know about it too. Here’s a look at some of the Twitter reaction:

Squad changes aplenty at Leipzig
In fairness, and if we’re being totally honest, Leipzig have had plenty of changes from this time last year.
Bruma, Jean-Kevin Augustin, Diego Demme, Matheus Cunha, and Stefan Ilsanker are all some of the players to have departed since. Arriving in their place has been the likes of Christopher Nkunku, Hannes Wolf, Ademola Lookman, and Dani Olmo respectively.
In fact, this season alone, Leipzig have signed nine players to join their revolution under Nagelsmann (Transfermarkt). Yes, a couple were signed in January, but it was still a massive difference to the line-up that faced Celtic.

If you look at the Leipzig side that lost at Celtic Park, there have only been two survivors when you look at the side that started at Spurs. Only Marcel Sabitzer and Konrad Laimer started both games.
So some perspective does have to be taken here. Leipzig are a much better outfit than they were last year, and that’s why they currently sit three points ahead of Borussia Dortmund and one behind Bayern Munich at the top.
Our win over Leipzig remains a fantastic result, but this is a side that have evolved substantially since.
