Some Celtic fans have been left delighted after Marian Shved started and scored for the club’s reserve side in a closed-door 4-0 friendly victory against Aberdeen.
The Ukrainian 22-year-old has been left on the fringes of Neil Lennon’s team this season, making just three first-team appearances, all of which have come from the bench.
His most recent sighting came in the recent Scottish Cup clash against Clyde, looking lively off the bench in the closing stages of that one.
Now he’s sent a big statement to Lennon with a goal against Aberdeen’s second-string today, heading home from Daniel Church, showing his versatility in finishing.
After scoring 15 goals for Karpaty Lviv last season, hopes were high that Shved could be a bright talent for the Bhoys this season.
Unfortunately, it hasn’t worked out that way but contributions like today’s will surely at least show his coaches he is progressing in some manner.
It’d be great to see him make some more matchday squads soon and perhaps even his first start in Celtic colours.
As the games ramp up in quality and importance over the next couple of months, having a settled down Shved ready to announce himself as a Hoops player would be fantastic.
