Is it time for David Turnbull to be unleashed in the Celtic midfield?
That’s what some fans are calling for ahead of AC Milan’s visit to Celtic Park on Thursday night.
The former Motherwell midfielder has been exposed gradually to the Hoops team since arriving in August, making just one start to date, against St Johnstone.
All of his substitute appearances have come in the Scottish Premiership, and he’s yet to be tested in European action.
Still, after the horror show against Rangers at the weekend, would he really be a worse option than the ineffective Olivier Ntcham.
The Frenchman has been below par all season.
Whether that’s on him or because of Neil Lennon’s tactics is up for debate, but it’s clear that we’re not getting the best out of him right now.
Turnbull could have the exciting energy we need to get in the faces of the Milan midfield on Thursday.
The Scotland U21 international has shown glimpses of impressive passing range and vision too, even if his first start in Perth wasn’t exactly dynamite.
I’d love to see him get a consistent run in Lennon’s team now. The pressure is on at Celtic, and we need fresh ideas. We can’t continue with these stagnate performances.
We invested a lot of money in Turnbull during the summer, and we need to find out if he has the quality to perform immediately or whether he’ll be a slow burn project.
A massive test against Milan sounds just the ticket.
These supporters have taken to Twitter this week to share their thoughts…
Cannae believe that the worst player in there squad scored 2 against us yesterday Lennon needs work on his tactics he should have had another CB in on deadline day its clear Ntcham doesn’t want be here so dont play him what does turnbull need to do to get more minutes on the park

@ClydeSSB we can make all the excuses we want, satueday we lacked heart, fight and passion, rangers deserved it in every way, that for me is the main thing, lennon needs to go for me, if he stays then play turnbull!!

3 at the back hasn’t worked this season. I’d go for 4-2-2-2 starting against Milan
Get our width from the full backs, high energy through the middle, 2 up top.

As for the rest, there are a few who deserve to be dropped for the Milan game. I’m nothing if not fair – huge fan of Ntcham, but he was fucking rubbish again and I expected a lot more from him. Elyounoussi rotten too. Get Christie and Turnbull in there on Thursday.

Griffiths, Rogic & Turnbull need to start against Milan. We have big few weeks coming up and these players need match fitness, not to be sitting warning bench. Our midfield needs Tam back ASAP

Definitely Turnbull not sure if other 2 are fully fit. Could do more damage?

AC Milan or not, that team needs a refresh. I’d bring Rogic, Turnbull, Griffiths and Ajeti all back in, providing Eddy misses out. I’m not even sure I’d start Duffy either to be honest.

100% agree with exception of comment on Duffy. Really looking forward to Turnbull getting a good run 👍
