Neil Lennon’s decision not to start Jeremie Frimpong last night, or even use him as a Celtic substitute, has not gone down well with a section of Hoops supporters.
The emergence of Frimpong into the first-team has been one of the big success stories at the club this season.
His personality and on-the-pitch performances have left fans buzzing throughout the campaign and Lennon has, for the most part, shown great faith in his abilities.
Against Copenhagen though he was only named on the bench and failed to see any minutes in the second leg defeat, despite starting away from home last week.
His performance in Denmark was not the teenager playing at his peak but given it was his first-ever career European performance, it was far from dreadful.
Lennon instead opted to break up his central defensive partnership of Christopher Jullien and Kristoffer Ajer, switching the Norwegian out to right-back and playing Jozo Simunovic.
Ajer has been used in this position before, though mainly as an emergency option. He is a solid pick but doesn’t provide the same attacking threat as Frimpong and looks far more comfortable playing centrally.
The selection call is not quite as controversial as the one which ensured Callum McGregor featured against Cluj at left-back, but it’s annoyed some fans nonetheless, with this lot taking to Twitter over the last 24 hours to share their thoughts…
