Some Celtic fans are looking to see Luca Connell in senior action soon after his starring role for the young Hoops today in a derby match against Rangers.
In what was described as “a fiercely contested affair” by CelticFC.net, Connell and company drew 1-1 away to our rivals at the Hummel Training Centre in the City of Glasgow Cup.
That was a hard-earned result though, with Celtic reduced to ten men early in the second half after Ewan Henderson received his marching orders.
Connell’s first-half goal looked to be enough to secure the victory but Rangers youngster Ciaran Dickson netted with just a few minutes remaining.
Still, it’s encouraging to see Connell’s name pop up again as a stand-out.
Signed by the club last summer after breaking into the Bolton first-team last season, the 18-year-old has had to remain patient while improving and learning with the development squad.
He’s not even been named in a matchday 18 to date by Neil Lennon but if he can continue impressing then he has a chance of an appearance before the end of the season.
The manager has already shown with the inclusion of Jeremie Frimpong and Stephen Welsh that he is willing to give young, untested players a chance.
These supporters were certainly delighted by Connell’s efforts today, taking to Twitter to share their thoughts…
