Some Celtic fans have given the thumbs up for the club’s reported Andraz Sporar interest.

The Daily Mail released a report on Friday that stated the Hoops are weighing up an offer for £5million-rated striker Sporar. The Daily Record then reported late last night that he would be available if Celtic provide the right fee.

So far this season, the Slovenian has an impressive record. Sporar has netted an incredible 20 times in 26 appearances for Slovan Bratislava (Transfermarkt). Five of those came in the Europa League group stages, where he netted against Besiktas, Braga, and Wolves respectively.

It’s fair to say he knows where the goal is, and at 25, he certainly has plenty of potential in him. Sections of the Celtic support are definitely all for it too. Here’s a look at what some of them are saying:

Are recent links a sign of Lennon’s intent?

Of course, it’s not only Sporar who we’ve been linked with as a potential striking option this January. Bild have also reported that we’re interested in Union Berlin striker Sebastian Andersson.

What it is is a much-welcomed change of topic from the likes of Uche Ikpeazu and Sam Cosgrove. Hitmen with pedigree in Europe should be the bracket we’re looking at this January. The problem, of course, is that they won’t come cheap.

But what these links suggest is that Lennon and Nicky Hammond are getting to work on their January recruitment. Whether it’s Sporar, Andersson, or anyone else, it’s becoming more and more clear that a striker is a priority in the winter window.

January signing has to be ambitious

What Lennon has to make sure of now is that whoever we bring in is better than what we have. There’s no point bringing in an equal to Leigh Griffiths or Vakoun Bayo. The reason we need another striker is because we need something better. Someone capable of filling the boots of Odsonne Edouard when he leaves or is injured.

Griff, for all of his hard work, has proven to be injury-prone. Bayo, meanwhile, has a lot of convincing to do after a poor cameo against Cluj on Thursday night. It’s great to therefore see Lennon taking the right precautions and look at other options.

If it is indeed Sporar, we’ll be getting a player who has a proven track record. He has 19 caps for Slovenia and has won titles in Switzerland, Slovenia, and Slovakia respectively (Transfermarkt).

For us supporters, it’s just a positive to see some decent names being linked with the club ahead of a crucial window in our charge to nine-in-a-row.
