Some Celtic fans have taken issue with Neil Lennon’s post-Copenhagen comments, especially with regards to his Hoops team being in control of last night’s encounter.
Celtic slumped to a 3-1 defeat at the hands of our Danish visitors on Thursday night, losing the Round of 32 Europa League tie by a 4-2 margin on aggregate.
Lennon was understandably disappointed with the result and performance, feeling individual errors in the second half led to the Bhoys coming done.
As quoted by the official club Twitter account, the manager said: “I’m hugely disappointed. We were in control in the first-half. We made a mistake that gave them encouragement and we shot ourselves in the foot for the second goal.
“Bitterly disappointing in the manner we lost. Copenhagen didn’t have to work too hard for their goals. We gave them away cheaply and that’s not like us at all.”
Celtic went into the interval last night with the tie still in the balance and the match deadlocked at 0-0.
That was despite a couple of good chances in the Copenhagen box.
With the away side also fashioning breakaways and creating a chance or two of their own heading into the break, saying we were control of proceedings doesn’t ring especially true.
For large portions of the first 45 minutes, it was an open, pretty scrappy match. It was always on a knife-edge.
Some fans feel that the manager has not only read the match wrongly but also got his team and tactics wrong on the night, setting Celtic up to fail.
