Some Celtic fans have hit back at Gordon Smith on social media for his comments on VAR and the Betfred Cup final.
Smith did his best to defend Rangers and stated in the Scottish Sun yesterday that, had there been video technology, the Ibrox side would’ve taken the cup. What crystal ball he managed to read that from hasn’t been revealed, but he was pretty certain.

That’s despite the fact that the game would’ve completely changed course. Celtic likely would’ve kept 11 men on the park and gotten more joy with Odsonne Edouard just on. You can always look at these things two ways.
And some Hoops fans have been quick to let Smith know what they think of his remarks. Here’s a look at some of the reaction:

Smith should know better
So the former SFA Chief Executive was willing to simply dismiss one team’s chances in the game if their goal had been disallowed? Despite the fact the opposition team had yet to actually score a goal? Smith should know better as an apparent expert of the game.
The comments reek of bitterness, and the fury that the goal has caused has been so laughable it’s embarrassing. Yes, we get it, big Jullien was offside. Are we to apologise? You can forget it. If Rangers were good enough to win the game then they would’ve done.
Some of the supporters above make some interesting points too. Alfredo Morelos committed a host of fouls throughout the game, including one where he raked Jullien’s achilles. If VAR caught that, the Colombian forward could easily have walked.

There’s also the nasty Scott Arfield challenge on Ryan Christie that not many want to talk about. You can view that one for yourself on BT Sport’s Twitter by clicking here.
Never has a team been praised as much as this Rangers side for actually losing a final. We’re as well just giving them the cup because it’s not as if we’re getting the due praise for it. The BBC’s report on the game by Tom English, for example, struggles to give us much credit.
In any case, the pain being shown by many has been hilarious. Smith just falls into that same bracket.
