Charlie Nicholas’ goals for Celtic helped the club to two Scottish Premier League titles, but you wouldn’t know it when listening to his punditry.
Once again, the big-mouthed Sky Sports man has had a pop at Celtic, and has offered up a seemingly unprovoked attack on Odsonne Edouard. Nicholas laughably wrote in his Daily Express column that the Frenchman “irritated” him. (24/09, page 61).

The reason for Nicholas’ irritation? The fact that Edouard doesn’t celebrate enough for him. He doesn’t believe French Eddy shows enough passion, and that he looks as though he doesn’t care enough in so-called lesser games.
Celtic supporters, however, have been, quite rightly, quick to jump down Nicholas’ throat over his ridiculous comments. Here’s a look at some of the reaction to the former Arsenal and Hoops striker’s words.

Celtic fans right to have pop at Nicholas over needless comments
Nicholas may have used to play for Celtic, but that’s where the relationship ends. The former Scotland forward takes any chance to have a pop at the club, and today he’s proved that he’s prepared to make his digs as petty as ever.
Edouard’s style, as a fan above states, is laid back. It doesn’t mean he doesn’t care when he goes out onto the pitch. After all, you only have to go back to Sunday to see just how much French Eddy cares about the Hoops. There was no lack of celebration when he netted his brace against Kilmarnock. That surely falls under the “lesser games” category.

Previous to that, Edouard has shown plenty of passion with strikes against lesser Premiership sides. This idea that he doesn’t care at times is a total myth.
But the more frustrating question for Celtic fans here will be why Nicholas even feels the need to bring it up? Why not talk about how he continues to score big goals at crucial times for Celtic? Why not talk about the fact he now has eight goals for the season already?

There’s just no need for the negativity, and it smacks of someone who’s desperate to find a negative in a week of sheer positives for Neil Lennon’s Hoops.
Supporters have a strained relationship with Nicholas. Whether it will ever heal is down to his own comments on Celtic. But judging by what he’s said about Edouard, it doesn’t look like he’s willing to fall back in with us anytime soon.
