Some Celtic fans have been giving their reaction to the latest Tom Rogic blow over the last 24 hours.

Neil Lennon revealed at his press conference that he was one of four players who stayed home in Glasgow for the trip to Rome (Celtic Twitter). This comes after Rogic played 79 minutes against Hibernian on Saturday. Lennon hasn’t revealed the nature of his absence.

It was an odd one from Lennon considering Rogic didn’t look to have any knocks when he came off at the weekend. He put in a typically creative shift at Hampden, and was hooked for Ryan Christie. It followed a 90-minute outing against Aberdeen the weekend beforehand.

So his latest omission comes as a bit of a shock. And, reacting to the news on Twitter, some Celtic fans haven’t reacted too kindly to the update:

Rogic is missing too many games

Whether this is an injury or something else unforeseen, the fact is that the Wizard of Oz is missing too many games. This season alone after tonight, Rogic will have missed 14 games already.

If anything was to happen to Ryan Christie, Rogic is the player we would have to rely on. Neil Lennon does have the option of pushing either Callum McGregor or Olivier Ntcham into the number 10 position. However, neither player would likely see that as their strongest area.

Rogic missing tonight’s trip to Rome isn’t ideal for the club. There comes a time when we need to stop shrugging these knocks off as just another injury. The idea of selling Rogic has been touched on in the comments above, but that could be a struggle if he’s hardly on the pitch.

In the summer of 2018, Tam signed a new five-year contract with the club (Celticfc.net). At the time it was viewed as tremendous business. But his injury problems have been seriously frustrating.

Last season, Rogic also missed 15 games after needing knee surgery. We all would’ve hoped by now that the issue would’ve been resolved. But with Lenny revealing recently that he’s still getting inflammation in his knee, he clearly hasn’t fully recovered (STV).

It’s important to stress that Lennon didn’t actually confirm that to be the reason for him missing out tonight. But one thing’s for sure – Rogic just isn’t available anywhere near enough.
