Celtic fans certainly didn’t avoid praising Mohamed Elyounoussi after a stunning performance from the on-loan Southampton star.
The Norwegian scored his sixth and seventh goals for the Hoops against Hibernian at Hampden last night. It led to Neil Lennon calling it the best performance he’s seen from Mo since he signed for the club (Celtic TV).

He also came close to the hat-trick on a couple of occasions too – most notably when he smashed a low left-footed effort off the base of the post. He then managed to show incredible selflessness to set up Scott Brown for goal number five when he was already on a hat-trick himself and in a position to shoot.
Taking all this into account, supporters have certainly been showering the Norwegian with plenty of praise. Speaking on Twitter, here’s a look at some of the love for him:

The official first-choice at left-mid
First off, it’s undoubted that Mikey Johnston is a superb talent. He’ll be a big player for Celtic for the foreseeable future, and will likely have a long and successful career at Parkhead.
But for now, with Celtic at such a delicate stage in their history, there can be no sympathy shown. Elyounoussi is the first choice and it’s going to take something special for that to change.

He now has seven goals in just 10 appearances for the club. As one of the Celtic fans above states, that’s seven more than Ryan Kent has managed over the road. Remember Kent? The guy who was going to tear everyone apart in Rangers’ desperate search for hope after we beat them at Ibrox?
Elyounoussi is having the kind of impact the media and others wanted Kent to have. At this rate, he could turn out to be the signing of the season all things considered.

His brace against Hibs was yet another big-game that he’s showed up in. Add it to the likes of Cluj and Aberdeen too. He’s not one to shy away from the spotlight, and you can see why he’s gone for such large transfer fees in the past.
Unfortunately for Mikey, this could mean a prolonged spell on the outside looking in. He’ll get his chances this season to shine, but for now, Elyounoussi just can’t be dropped for any big game.
