Sutton, Hartson and some Celtic fans react as club stay five points clear in Scottish Premiership

Celtic fans are celebrating a brilliant weekend, ending Sunday five points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership.

A Callum McGregor penalty and an Odsonne Edouard double earned a 3-0 victory at home to Ross County on Saturday, with Neil Lennon’s Bhoys opening up a gap over Rangers.

Steven Gerrard’s team had the opportunity to bring it back into two points by the end of the weekend but suffered a 2-1 defeat away to Hearts at Tynecastle this afternoon.

The Hoops are now on 58 points after 22 games, with Rangers falling behind on 53 after 21.

It’s the first win that the Jam Tarts have managed under Daniel Stendel in the league and could be a turning point in their quest to escape relegation.

We don’t usually like seeing the Edinburgh side pick up a victory but today is very much an exception, with the derby defeat at the end of December now effectively cancelled out.

Just like last year after the winter break, it appears Rangers are beginning to wilt under the pressure.

This, of course, has gone down well with Celtic supporters and Celtic-minded pundits, with former strikers Chris Sutton and John Hartson some of the first to provide reaction on Twitter.

It most certainly is John.

This is a weekend that could prove decisive in the title race and will certainly do a lot to quieten down some of the more outlandish rhetoric emanating from the blue half of Glasgow.

Celtic have a chance to pick up another league win on Wednesday night away to St Johnstone, while Rangers host Ross County.
