The vast majority of Celtic fans would have come away from Parkhead very satisfied after last night’s 3-1 win over Rennes. The comfortable victory saw us make history by topping a European group and getting more than ten points – both for the first time.

It was a terrific evening of entertainment on the pitch as Neil Lennon’s men turned on the style yet again. And the joy was also seemingly mirrored in the stands as the travelling French support made a bit of an impression on the Hoops faithful.

Around 2,500 Rennes fans travelled to Glasgow and they made noise throughout – in what was a dead rubber clash for them. However, some Celtic fans were a little bit turned off by just how friendly relations got between the two groups of supporters, as they took to Twitter to show their disgust.

It appears as if the allegation of some Celtic fans cheering Rennes’ goal was true, as another fan made the claim.

One fan took things to the extreme.

But the theme of Celtic fans celebrating the Rennes consolation strike continued.

 

The reaction wasn’t all negative though

Not all fans were as down on the new friendship that seems to have been formed though. A lot were pleased to see a nice relationship develop at the game, in stark contrast to our two meetings against Lazio.

The Rennes support deserve credit for being so upbeat despite the performances of their side during this Europa League campaign.

And they made a real impression with many Celtic supporters.
