Celtic fans have been reacting to the surprising announcement that Liam Burt has signed for the club.
The Hoops made the announcement before he started in Celtic’s Tunnock’s Caramel Wafer Cup clash against Queen’s Park last night. Celtic sent out their under-21s to face the part-time outfit, and managed to win the tie on a penalty shoot-out.
In what was a debut to remember for Burt, he slotted home the winning penalty to send the young Hoops through to the second round. It was a huge result for the young Bhoys, and Burt was at the heart of it.
This also comes, however, after the youngster left Rangers towards the end of last season. And, after yesterday’s events, some Celtic fans have been reacting to the news on social media. Here’s a look at what they had to say:

Celtic’s two-year plan for Burt must be given a chance
The reaction to the deal has, by and large, been pretty low-key. Not many Celtic fans have been singing his praises, whilst nobody has been out criticising him for his Rangers past either.
Celtic stated on their website that Burt will be looking to become a first-teamer within two years. It seems optimistic at face-value, but the midfielder certainly has promising technique.
The main issue comes from actually trying to displace the players already at Parkhead. You wouldn’t expect the likes of Callum McGregor or Ryan Christie to go anytime soon. Scott Brown, of course, could be hanging up in the boots in the near future, so that is one potential spot for him to contest.
But Burt must also have a real chip on his shoulder. Leaving Rangers after many good things were said about him will likely have disappointed him. Celtic have clearly seen something there to take a chance on, however.
Signing players from across the divide tends to not sit well with supporters. Burt, however, was on Celtic’s books as a youngster. He already has a connection with the club, and supporters generally seem willing to dismiss the fact he played for the other side.
Now, let’s see if he can progress at the rate Celtic want him to.
