Celtic Women FC’s first ever league campaign as a professional side got off to the prefect start on Friday night with a 2-1 win over Glasgow City.
The Hoops dominated much of a game that was played in dreadful conditions. That didn’t stop the team from going a goal behind.
Winning goal in injury time
However, they responded to the setback in style. Sarah Ewans equalised before captain Kelly Clark scored the winning goal in injury time.

The win will give the team plenty of confidence for the rest of the season. It showed that they should be a force to be reckoned with in the Scottish’s Women’s Premier League this season.
Of course, Glasgow City will still be favourites for the league. They have won the last 13 titles in a row after all.
However, you imagine that one of the reasons Celtic Women turned professional was to experience results like Friday’s on a regular basis.
Fans may get on board after victory
The good thing for the team is that the win should get fans on board who perhaps weren’t previously interested in the team.
For example, the win didn’t go unnoticed amongst Celtic fans on social media.

One supporter claimed it was a ‘great result’. Another paid tribute to the team for playing ‘really good football’ in conditions that were awful.
Here are some of the best reactions from Twitter to what was a momentous night for Celtic Women:
