Celtic fans are getting right behind a potential move for Lech Poznan’s Robert Gumny.
The Scottish Daily Mail (13/08, back page) has claimed that the Hoops are considering making a move for the Polish defender. Neil Lennon apparently remains keen to spend some of the Kieran Tierney money.

And Gumny would certainly fit the bill for many Celtic fans. He’s made 75 appearances for Poznan, and the Scottish Sun believes that he’s expected to leave the Ekstraklasa before the end of the transfer window.
Supporters certainly came across as keen on the move too when giving their views on it. Here’s a look at what some had to say on social media in recent times:
Gumny to Celtic would be a class signing 👏🏽

A new dawn beckons for Celtic in Europe, as Joe Hart shows his class once again

Absolutely fantasising of a back four that includes Melling, Julian, Ajer & Gumny; would be too good to be true. Rate Hatem highly after his debut performances in the premiership and Champions league qualifiers.

Gumny and Forrest down the same wing is scarily good. May as well book Istanbul if we pull it off.

Robert Gumny to Celtic reads well from the outside
Supporters sometimes seem to get stick for being excited by a potential player arrival. The reason being the fact that they actually haven’t seen much of the player and therefore can’t judge. Whilst that’s true, it’s allowable for fans to get excited by a player from what they’ve heard of him.
Gumny has already featured four times for Lech Poznan in their opening four league games this season. If he did sign, he should at the very least be match-fit, which is more than you can say for players we usually sign.
Gumny has started the campaign injury-free (Pawel Jaskolka /PressFocus/MB Media/Getty Images)
The one big doubt over him is how he’s feeling after an injury-ravaged season last year. The right-back had to go for knee surgery before missing the first half of last term. This came after he failed a medical with Borussia Monchengladbach over a year ago too (Get German Football News). He would then go on to play just 21 games last season.
So the obvious concern with the deal would be his injury issues. But he’s been courted by plenty of big clubs in the past. He’s also a Poland under-21 international, but he’s yet to have been capped by the senior side.
Hatem Abd Elhamed needs quality competition (Mark Runnacles/Getty Images)
He has five assists and one goal in 75 appearances for Lech. So it could be the case that his primary focus is on defending. His stats would be expected to improve going forward if he came to Parkhead.
But fans are quite right to be excited. Gumny remains a highly-rated young talent at 21. If Celtic sign him up, they’ll hopefully have some quality competition for Hatem Abd Elhamed.
