Some Celtic fans have been fuming with Ryan Christie’s red card in this afternoon’s 2-0 defeat at Livingston.
The loss at the Tony Macaroni Arena came out of nowhere. Celtic had started well enough without creating many opportunities. However, the red card changed the complexion of the game.

Christie went in high on Scott Robinson midway through the first 45. From there on, Celtic struggled to create anything, and made horrible defensive lapses that helped put the game beyond them.
But as Celtic fans we were all made to wonder “what if” come full-time. And, as supporters reacted to the result, here’s a look at some of the different reactions to the decision:

Christie takes some of the blame, but there are other issues here
Sure, nobody can say that Christie shouldn’t be taking some of the blame. In fact, he should take plenty of it considering he effectively put us at a huge disadvantage with such a prolonged period of the match remaining.
However, perhaps more concerningly was just how poor we looked with 10 men. Celtic offered next to nothing in the second half outside of desperate long balls. Bringing on Vakoun Issouf Bayo was a sign that Lenny was ready to resort to that, however.

But there were so many other weaknesses on the day. A lack of invention going forward was perhaps overshadowed by the complete loss of heads at the back.
Kristoffer Ajer once again had a poor display in green and white. Something needs to happen with him over the international break so that he finds his mojo again. Christopher Jullien, meanwhile, looked rattled against Lyndon Dykes. It’s a battle we all hoped the Frenchman would thrive in – he didn’t.
Up top, Odsonne Edouard’s decision-making was also a concern. He got into some good areas in the final third yet often played the wrong ball. After going down to 10 men, meanwhile, he struggled to get into the game.

Down both flanks, Moritz Bauer and Boli failed to get into the game going forward. That wasn’t down to a lack of commitment, but more just a lack of quality on the day.
So there were more things to be concerned about than Christie’s red card. Did he make a costly error? Undoubtedly. But considering the impact he’s made this season alone, he can’t be used as a scapegoat.
