Some Celtic supporters have taken to social media this weekend to revisit a social media post from Jermain Defoe made back in January of last year in which he stated alongside a picture of him and Steven Gerrard: “Let’s bring that trophy home, boss.”
Neil Lennon’s Hoops are on the march to a ninth successive league title, currently sitting with a 12 point advantage over Rangers at the top of the Scottish Premiership.
With a League Cup also in the bag for Celtic this term, thoughts are turning to a potential treble.
We’ll have to navigate a test against St Johnstone later today but hopes are high.
One team who won’t be challenging us in that competition, regardless of how we do, is Gerrard’s outfit. They hilariously lost their own quarter-final clash away to Hearts on Saturday evening.
Defoe’s post was made after signing up at Ibrox on loan from Bournemouth but, to date, his club have come up short in every cup competition, also losing the league last term.
Hopes of a title are fading for them and although they are still in the Europa League, it seems unlikely they’ll be lifting that.

Defoe’s hopeful message to Gerrard is pretty amusing in hindsight then, with the striker clearly not quite experiencing the trophy rush he was expecting when he made the switch from the English Premier League.
These fans couldn’t help but revisit the message, taking to Twitter this weekend to share their thoughts…
