Despite reaching the semi-final of the Scottish Cup after a 2-0 win over Hibernian, some Celtic fans were unhappy with the performance of Mikael Lustig.

Lustig made his first start for the Hoops in a month, and it is fair to say that not everyone was impressed.

Despite the impressive victory at Easter Road, some fans took issue with Lustig’s performance.

Not a surprise Lustig is back

Brendan Rodgers replaced Lustig in the side with January signing Jeremy Toljan. But it is not exactly a surprise to see Lustig back in the side.

Neil Lennon bought him for Celtic in 2011, and he still has faith in a player who has struggled at times this season.

Perhaps the dye was cast for Toljan when Lustig replaced him in the 2-1 win over Hearts, Lennon’s first game as interim manager.

Lustig had rarely featured for the Hoops in any game after the winter break until his appearance at Tynecastle. Rodgers seemed to lose faith in Lustig, whilst Neil Lennon obviously still rates the player.

Lustig’s contract expires at the end of the season. However, should Neil Lennon be appointed manager on a permanent basis it would not be a shock if he signed a new deal.

Lustig still has something to offer the Hoops. But his performances will have to improve judging by the reaction of some Celtic supporters.
