Some Scotland fans aren’t happy that Celtic star Lewis Morgan has been called up to Steve Clarke’s international squad this week.
The national team announced on Tuesday that Morgan will join up with his teammates for matches against Cyprus and Kazakhstan over the coming days.
The move comes as more established players such as Ryan Fraser and Andy Robertson drop out, apparently injured or not fit enough to take part in competitive action for their country.
Morgan is also on the fringes of the Celtic first-team squad and some have questioned whether he’s getting regular enough action to justify his selection.
The winger was a regular throughout our European qualifiers during the summer but has found his chances limited in the wake of Mohamed Elyounoussi’s arrival.

He’s made just two Scottish Premiership appearances since the end of August, both of which were late-in-the-game cameos from the bench.
It’s unlikely that his selection will have much impact on Clarke’s starting team, and it’s certainly not his fault he’s been selected, so some of the criticism of fans could be seen as a little harsh. He’s still part of an elite squad after all.
Although he’s not shown much to date, I’m still hoping that the player can push on and stake a claim for both club and country, because Neil Lennon appears to rate him, singling the winger out for praise in August (Football Scotland).
As players like Ryan Christie have shown, it’s never too late to make a Hoops impact.
