Some Scotland fans react to Celtic star Ryan Christie vs San Marino

Some of the Tartan Army have been reacting to Celtic man Ryan Christie’s Scotland performance tonight.

The Scots hammered San Marino 6-0 at Hampden as they gained at least a tiny bit of momentum from the international break. San Marino are the worst-ranked team in the FIFA World Rankings. But despite that, Scotland desperately needed some points after four straight defeats.

And in fairness to Christie, he needed the performance too. Of the five goals, Christie managed to set up two of them on a positive night for him. This comes just a week after being sent off in Celtic’s 2-0 defeat at Livingston before closing his social media account after receiving abuse.

But it seems as though the Scotland supporters have been generally pleased with his performance in dark blue tonight. Here’s a look at what some of them had to say on Twitter (including a couple of Hoops fans)

There’s no denying that Christie needed that. After everything that’s happened over the last week, he needed pretty much any form of pick-me-up.

There’s still a bit of debate over whether he was actually on the scoresheet or not. John McGinn’s opener for his hat-trick was debatable as to whether he scored it, to say the least. But in any case, it was a positive contribution from Christie.

Unfortunately, he’ll now come back to Parkhead and will be suspended for our next two league games. This will be against both Ross County and Aberdeen respectively. His next available Celtic clash will be against Lazio at Parkhead next Thursday.

And at the very least, we know he’ll be back in good spirits. You could see the Celtic attacker laughing with Stuart Armstrong after Scotland’s sixth goal against San Marino. He certainly didn’t look down on the soaking Hampden turf.

But he now has to hope that Tom Rogic or Olivier Ntcham in particular don’t impress too much in his absence. Celtic have a gaping number 10 hole in their side with Christie’s suspension. Neil Lennon has yet to give any indication as to how he’ll fill that gap.

Christie, however, is back in good spirits once again. That, at least, is a big positive.
