It appears as though some St Johnstone fans aren’t taking this afternoon’s Scottish Cup quarter-final defeat to Celtic all that well.
Tommy Wright’s men gave Celtic a solid performance as they kept us honest at McDiarmid Park. Indeed, it took an 81st-minute Ryan Christie free-kick to deliver us a semi-final place at Hampden next month.

St Johnstone had some chances of their own. Drey Wright, Callum Hendry, and Stevie May will all look back on individual moments and feel they had their opportunities. So, in a way, it’s a tough one for Saints to take.
However, some of their supporters appear to be a touch unreasonable regarding how they went out. Thankfully there were also some who simply looked to accept the reality of the situation. Here’s a look at some of the reaction from the other side:

Struggling to think of Forster’s big saves
For all of the apparent domination that St Johnstone had in the game, I’m struggling to think of all of the chances Forster had to stop. Outside of a decent hit by Drey Wright, it was another quiet afternoon for the Celtic goalkeeper.
Then again, that’s always the way in Scottish football. When an opposition team has us on the ropes for a 10-minute period or so, they apparently deserve to win the game.
In reality, Celtic had big chances that were spurned by poor finishing from Callum McGregor, Odsonne Edouard, and James Forrest to name a few. That’s not including Christopher Jullien’s set-piece opportunity and the goal we actually scored. And this was one of our poorer performances.

The comments above about “dirty Lennon tactics” and the goal not standing is also a good laugh. Don’t let the truth get in the way of a good story. There was nothing wrong with Christie’s goal, and it’s likely just the pain simmering through.
And no wonder. Celtic have won 34 consecutive domestic cup matches. That means we’re four wins away from the equivalent of a full season in the league. It shows the work being done by the manager and the players. Hopefully, we carry it all the way to Hampden once again.
What did you make of St Johnstone today? Was it something they did right that put us under pressure? Or was it simply the conditions? Perhaps the Copenhagen efforts had much to do with our overall display. Give us your thoughts in our discussion forum below.
