Southampton have tweeted a photo of Fraser Forster back in training after his Celtic saga this summer.
Ever since Celtic secured nine-in-a-row, Forster’s return had been the subject on everyone’s lips. The England international played a huge part for Neil Lennon’s men last season during his season-long loan stint in Glasgow.
Since the end of the campaign, Hoops boss Lennon had constantly been asked about the possibility of Forster’s return. The manager’s last comments on him were that things had gone quiet from Forster’s representatives (Sky Sports). Celtic then moved to sign Vasilis Barkas from AEK Athens for £4.5m (BBC).
And after a summer of silence, Forster has finally been spotted as he returned to training with Premier League outfit Southampton.

There’s a bitterness surrounding Forster’s departure
Even though Barkas is signed up and Celtic are ready to spearhead their charge for 10-in-a-row, there’s still something bitter about the way Forster went dark on the club.
Remember, this is a goalkeeper who couldn’t help but talk up a permanent return to Parkhead last season. In fact, when questioned on a return he said he “couldn’t say no” to coming back (The Herald).
In a way he didn’t, of course. Instead, he decided to just patch Lennon. He may have a different side to the story, but that’s how it feels from this Celtic supporter’s perspective.
All eyes will now be on whether Forster can get a look-in at Southampton. Up against the likes of Alex McCarthy and Angus Gunn, his chances still look limited ahead of the new season.
But his route back to Glasgow can now be deemed shut. Celtic have made a huge investment in Barkas, and he’ll most certainly be given the number one treatment for the foreseeable future. Any big fee Celtic are willing to splash out shouldn’t be going towards another goalkeeper.
Who knows? Maybe one more return to Parkhead will happen at some stage in the future. But for now, we’re made to look back on stunning performances against the likes of Rennes, Lazio, and Rangers last season.
Yet all of that is still soured by a tinge of bitterness over his lack of communication this summer.
