SPFL announce post-split arrangements as Martin O’Neill braces for Celtic run-in

The SPFL have announced the post-split dates for the 2025-26 season.

As things stand, it could potentially be one of the most dramatic conclusions to a season ever, with Celtic, Rangers and Hearts separated by just six points.

As things stand, Martin O’Neill’s men sit third, but that is through little of his own doing. A chaotic sequence of events at Celtic Park has put them in this position.

For many (but not all) seasons in the last decade, Celtic have already had either one or two hands on the league trophy by the time of the split.

This time, however, things could be very different.

Celtic fans would you rather: Win the Europa League but miss out on the league title?

Or… get knocked out of the Europa League and win the title?

Celtic learn post-split SPFL dates

Celtic’s 2-2 draw with Hearts last week was an assault on the nerves of any Celtic fan… get used to that, given how close things are currently.

The Hoops have now faced Hearts three times and Rangers twice in the league, winning none of those five games.

That will need to change if Celtic want to retain their title – and perhaps the most decisive days in the process of doing that will come after the split.

In an official statement, the SPFL said: “Top-six matches will take place on Saturday May 16, kick-off 12.30pm, while bottom-six games will be played on Sunday May 17, kick-off TBC.

The other post-split dates are the weekends of April 25/26, May 2/3 and May 9/10 and the midweek of May 12/13.

“Post-split fixtures and broadcast selections will be published as soon as possible following fixture round 33 on the weekend of April 11/12.”

SPFL Chief Operating Officer Calum Beattie said: “We are pleased to be able to publish arrangements for the final weekend of the William Hill Premiership season.

“It promises to be an incredibly exciting run-in and we look forward to watching it all unfold.

The league has also announced that clubs can postpone their Matchday Three fixtures next season, should they be involved in UEFA qualifiers.

How many more signings do you think Celtic need to win the title?
