Young Celtic defender, Adam Montgomery has impressed both Celtic and St Johnstone during his loan spell according to McDiarmid Park interim manager, Steven McLean.
McLean has been looking after St Johnstone since they parted ways with Callum Davidson and the manager was waxing lyrical about the young 20-year-old left-back.
Asked if he deserved his nomination for the Scottish Football Writers’ Player of the Year Award, McLean was unequivocal in his answer.

McLean said [The Courier], “Definitely. He has been outstanding.
“He will tell you himself that he has improved since he’s been here. Everyone can see he has improved massively and I know Celtic are happy.
“It is a credit to all parties.
“As a young player at Celtic, he probably didn’t have to defend as much.
“So that is why it was probably a good loan for him.
“He is not just a good player, he is great in the dressing room as well.
“I’m chuffed for him. He has a few games still to go and then he can go back to Celtic a better player.”
On 67 Hail Hail yesterday I asked the question if Montgomery has a future at Celtic Park. I did say that although it would be difficult to establish himself, it’s not entirely impossible.
And these comments from McLean seem to back that up.

Celtic will have learnt their lesson not to write players off too soon. Look at how late Callum McGregor’s Celtic career took to blossom.
And then there is Greg Taylor and Anthony Ralston. Those two have been excellent for the club this season after a shaky couple of years.
No one knows for sure if Montgomery has what it takes to make it at the club. But surely it would be silly not to at least try to find out?
