St Johnstone and their supporters showed their class on Saturday after leaving a charitable donation for the Celtic Disabled Supporters’ Club’s Easter Egg collection.

The Celtic DSA announced on Twitter several days before the game that they were doing a collection to be distributed amongst several charities. One of which being the Children’s Hospital in Glasgow.

And it wasn’t just the Celtic supporters who got involved with Saints fans also chipping in. The St Johnstone SLO announced the dropoff outside Gate 1 on Saturday afternoon, with the DSA explaining that this was all arranged a couple of days before the match:

It’s a beautiful gesture from the Saints supporters and one that doesn’t deserve to go unnoticed. Credit also goes to the St Johnstone SLO who made supporters aware multiple times on social media in the build-up to Saturday.

The collection looks to have been a success, with Celtic’s DAO thanking all who contributed earlier this morning.

The easter eggs will now be donated to various charities as rival football again shows the good it can do.

A classy gesture from St Johnstone that deserves appreciation

Tribalism has always been a big part of football and football rivalry. However, when it comes to causes such as these, it puts everything into perspective.

Credit to Celtic, St Johnstone, and the Celtic DSA for ensuring it ran as smoothly as possible.

Celtic as a club has charity engrained into its roots and that’s been shown over the years with countless donation appeals and contributions from both the club and its supporters.

It’s fantastic to see these kinds of causes taken on by supporters’ clubs too. Undoubtedly, the contributions made on Saturday will help put some smiles on children’s faces this Easter.

At the end of the day, that’s really all that matters. Massive props to all those who organised the collection and made donations.
