It’s clear to see that the Celtic fans aren’t best pleased with Leigh Griffiths after his comments on Neil Lennon, Peter Lawwell, and 10-in-a-row.
Indeed, Griff appeared to point a slightly accusatory finger at fans with his Saturday night comments. He claimed that many fans thought the 10 was a foregone conclusion and stated that “football doesn’t work like that”. He also said supporters have forgotten just what Lennon and Lawwell have done for the club.
Let’s not beat about the bush here. This wasn’t smart from Griffiths. He already knows fans are furious. Effectively telling them they’re wrong and don’t understand the full picture isn’t wise.
When you look at Griffiths’ own performances this season, you also question whether he should be trying to go against fan opinion. Remember, he only has six goals this season in 13 appearances [Transfermarkt].
In other words and in perhaps a more abrupt manner – he isn’t in any position to tell fans what they should be thinking. Not when he failed to return to pre-season not fully-fit [Glasgow Times].
Celtic fans don’t want to hear this from Griffiths
But in all seriousness, nobody should be coming out and doing that at the minute. The players must have a less tribal tone when it comes to the future of Lennon.
Many will feel that the players can’t say any different. That they have to back their manager. But there’s a line that doesn’t need to be crossed when doing so and Griffiths does cross it.

After all, nobody was criticising Moi Elyounoussi for saying the team will stick together in midweek. He was behind Lennon with his comments, but he didn’t try to use the supporters to make his argument.
That’s where Griffiths has gone wrong here. It’s where he’s managed to rile up a fan-base that has had his back for years.
