“Stay” “I’ll drive him”; Celtic fans mixed on Ryan Christie’s future amid Burnley link

Many Celtic fans on social media appear mixed regarding the future of star-man Ryan Christie.

The Daily Record reported over the weekend that Burnley had been tracking the former Inverness starlet, and that they’re prepping an offer for him in the final few weeks of the transfer window.

Christie has netted 35 goals for the Hoops since arriving back in 2015, but has only been a regular part of the first-team over the last three campaigns. Neil Lennon has featured him in every game so far this season however as he continues to be one of the first names in the current starting XI (Transfermarkt).

However, despite appearing so regularly for the club, it appears not everyone of a Celtic-mind wants him to stay. Here’s a look at some of the reaction to Christie’s Burnley link:

Too important a season to lose top contributors

We all know Christie can frustrate. When he hits the first man with his crosses or sends what looks to be easy balls out into touch – he has his moments that makes us put our hands on our face.

However, you also can’t ignore his stats. Christie has played 11 games this season including the first half of yesterday’s 3-0 win over Hibs. In total, he’s managed nine direct goal contributions made up of six assists and three goals.

If you strip away his goal contributions, Celtic would lose seven points this season alone. And that’s with him apparently performing at levels not considered to be his highest.

Losing him to Burnley, or anyone else, in the season where we could win 10-in-a-row comes across as total madness. This is a fabled achievement for Celtic and one which has to see us keep as many of our top talents as possible. Christie most certainly comes into that bracket.

He’ll have his price of course, but given how close we are to the end of the transfer window (October 5th), Celtic shouldn’t be going and giving up their best players for a quick buck. Not this season.

This is a year that should be dedicated to the fans alone. Every decision made should be geared towards what the fans would like to see. That’s just the kind of season this is.

In other news, Lennon labeled this Celtic player “class” yesterday; it’s time he received a proper renaissance.
