Stephane Mahe will go down in history as Celtic’s first ever French player. Now the Hoops have a number of French players in their squad, such as Olivier Ntcham, Christopher Jullien and Odsonne Edouard in their squad. Mahe is impressed with how one of his compatriots, Jullien has begun his career at Celtic Park.

“A great player”

“I know Jullien from his time with Toulouse. He is a great player, I love this player” he said, as reported by the Evening Times.

“It is nice to see some French players involved at Celtic and helping them make history. I am so happy to be the first one” Mahe concluded, as he reflected on his time at the club.

Mahe will always be a hero to Celtic fans for helping the Hoops win the title in 1998, which was the club’s first championship in a decade.

Now Jullien will be hoping to follow in Mahe’s footsteps, by ending his first season in the Hoops as a league winner. Jullien’s arrival at the club came with a lot more pressure than Mahe’s did. For a start, Celtic didn’t spend £7 million on Mahe, like they did on the centre-back in the summer.

Hasn’t let price tag affect his game

However, Jullien has not let the price tag – which made him Celtic’s second most expensive player ever – affect his game.

In fact, it could be argued that he has thrived under the pressure. Look at some of his best performances this season. Away to Rangers and Lazio, he helped the Hoops achieve notable victories. It may have taken him a few weeks to bed into the squad, but now Jullien is one of the most important players in the team.

Therefore, it is no wonder that Mahe is such a fan of the player. It was undoubtedly a bit of a gamble to sign the player at such expense – but so far Jullien is living up to all expectations that have been placed on him.
