Celtic’s squad may be weaker than it has in recent times, but there is still one player that continues to be impress.

The 2025 transfer window was underwhelming to say the least as the Hoops left themselves short in certain departments.

Martin O’Neill has helped them to turn a corner domestically however, in Europe, expectations have not been met.

Before the Europa League clash between Feyenoord and Celtic, journalist Stephen McGowan spoke to Dutch media to get the lowdown on the Hoops, and who the key man is.

Callum McGregor’s winner against St Mirren epitomised just how important he is to the side.

When the midfielder is ticking along, Celtic look like a better side, even at the age of 32.

He may not be exempt from criticism, but McGowan thinks that he is the key man for Celtic in Rotterdam.

“The captain, McGregor, is still the driving force in this team,” he told VoetbalZone.

“The supporters don’t think the squad is good enough to make an impression in Europe. Expectations are incredibly low.

“Celtic should have beaten the rather weak Red Star in the opening match, but were then outclassed by Braga and Midtjylland. The home victory over Sturm Graz has been the only bright spot in Europe so far.”
