Celtic restored a big advantage at the top of the Scottish Premiership with a convincing win over St Mirren this afternoon.
A double from Nicolas Kuhn and a first Hoops goal for defender Auston Trusty wrapped up the points in Celtic’s win over The Buddies.
Brendan Rodgers named a much-changed Celtic side as he rang the changes after the Glasgow Derby defeat to Rangers in the New Year.
The Celtic boss was delighted with the win but St Mirren manager, Stephen Robinson, sounded gutted as he pointed out the mistakes that cost his team at Celtic Park.
Stephen Robinson credits Nicolas Kuhn and admits Celtic ‘wear you down’
Robinson told the BBC, “We went 1-0 down to a very good finish, I never felt like we were under any threat.
“I’ve been to Celtic many times and it’s like you’re defending constantly, they’re creating chances, your goalkeeper has to make 10-15 saves in the game and none of that really happened today. We got in behind a couple of times as well.
“The second goal comes from a set play and the third goal was a bit of a mix-up.
“Zach [Hemming] didn’t have loads to do today but ultimately Celtic wear you down and if you make those mistakes you don’t win here.”
Celtic’s bizarre January Scottish Premiership fixture schedule
Celtic have a jam-packed fixture schedule this month as Brendan Rodgers looks to successfully defend his title.
With a game every midweek including important Champions League ties, the Celtic boss will need to utilise his squad effectively to negotiate this tricky period:
- Wednesday 8th January: Celtic vs Dundee Utd – 7:45pm
- Saturday 11th January: Ross County vs Celtic – 12:30pm
- Tuesday 14th January: Dundee vs Celtic – 8pm
- Saturday 25th January: Celtic vs Dundee – 3pm
The random kick-off times will test Celtic’s squad depth but with the talent Rodgers has at his disposal, the Hoops boss will be confident of ending this month with another 12 points on the board.
