Stephen Welsh blown away by what he's seen in 'unbelievable' Celtic training since derby win

Celtic defender Stephen Welsh says the intensity of training at Lennoxtown is even more fierce in the wake of Sunday’s win against Rangers, compared to before.

Welsh is still working every day with the first team under Ange Postecoglou, even if the form of Cameron Carter-Vickers and Carl Starfelt is keeping him out of the starting eleven.

Just as the manager predicted, Welsh now thinks his teammates are peaking for this critical run-in at the end of the season.

Speaking to Celtic TV, he said: “I think the training intensity has gone up a notch. Training this week has been solid. The intensity has been unbelievable. The quality has been even better than I’ve ever seen.

“That’s perfect for us. We’re going into the last few games of the season. Hopefully we’re hitting our peak right now. If you’re hitting your peak in April, who knows what we can do?

“The manager has touched on the last couple of days that the biggest game of the season for us is on Saturday against St Johnstone. We need to put in a good performance and get the result. Especially after last week, we need to build on that.

“It’s another game for us to show our level and what we can do and how we can perform. We want our best game of the season to come on Saturday.”

Players are always going to talk up their team and the hard work in training. But if you watch the footage of Welsh in the link above, beyond the written words, you can tell he is so dialled in and buzzing to be part of this project.

It all bodes very well for a strong, committed performance at Paradise today. If the team are truly champing at the bit to get our visitors this afternoon then supporters could get quite the show.

Bring it on!
