Stephen Welsh wants John Kennedy to get the Celtic job

Celtic defender Stephen Welsh wants John Kennedy to be given the permanent job at the club, he revealed in a post-match interview yesterday.

Welsh gave an assured performance in the derby against Rangers, looking comfortable despite the opponent and occasion.

It bodes well for his long-term Celtic future.

After the match, he reflected on the performance. He also gave his backing to Kennedy to land the permanent job.

Speaking to BBC Scotland (21/03 14:43), Welsh said: “Tough game as usual, that’s what we expect when you come into these type of games. I thought we dominated the first-half but that’s what has happened for us this season, we’ve not taken our chances. All in all we are disappointed not to come away with a win.

“Our concentration in the key moments has let us down and we need to work on that for the rest of this season and next season.

“I think Kendo’s (John Kennedy) doing a great job at the moment. I’ve worked with him for four or five years and he makes it easy for me to go and play. He trusts me to go and play in these games so, yes, definitely I’d like him to get the job.”

No doubt Kennedy is popular in the Celtic dressing room. It’d be a problem if he wasn’t given the length of time and relationships he’s developed at Lennoxtown. It’s natural for player to gravitate towards a comfortable choice.

However, it’s quite clear to many that John Kennedy isn’t the man for the job. These players don’t need comfort or for it to be easy.
