Liverpool legend and former Rangers manager Steven Gerrard will be in the Reds side that faces off against a Celtic Legends outfit at Anfield later this month – becoming the latest big name to join proceedings.
Mikael Lustig, Artur Boruc, Stan Petrov, Simon Donnelly, Stephen McManus, Darren O’Dea, Emilio Izaguirre, Marc Crosas, Si Ferry, Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink and 67 Hail Hail’s very own Joe Ledley are all signed up for the Bhoys squad. Paul Lambert will take charge in the dugout.
Facing them will be Gerrard, Jamie Carragher, Dirk Kuyt, Luis Garcia, Djibril Cissé, Daniel Agger, Martin Skrtel and Sami Hyypiä amongst others. Robbie Keane will play a half for both sides, with Sir Kenny Dalglish managing Liverpool.
Thousands of Celtic tickets have been sold for the 25th March occasion with all proceeds going to charitable causes.
Beneficiaries will include Celtic FC Foundation, Forever Reds (the official LFC former players association which, among other things, provides support to the club’s former players in need of care) and a range of programmes delivered by LFC Foundation and their partner organisations aiding schools, inclusive sports, social action, health and wellbeing and food poverty.
Dalglish is looking forward to it, telling the official Liverpool website earlier this month: “You mentioned Celtic fans earlier, they’ve sold thousands of tickets and we’ve sold a few as well. So, there’s plenty of time to pass from here until the 25th and I’m sure there will be a lot of tickets purchased.
“So, come along and enjoy yourself, everything that you put in, everything that they collect, is going to very worthwhile causes. I’ve been at a couple of Celtic Foundation events as well, and both clubs do a fantastic job for people who are not as fortunate as some others.”
This will be a welcome distraction for many travelling fans during the international break with Celtic not due to play again until April 2nd. Hopefully, TV details are announced too, for those unable to make the trip to Liverpool.
