Stiliyan Petrov has taken to Twitter to offer a theory as to why Celtic’s goals are seemingly always checked by VAR this season.
Ange Postecoglou’s side are enjoying a brilliant campaign so far as they currently sit nine points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership.
Celtic are plotting another domestic treble and turned on the style once again as they thrashed St Johnstone 4-1 on Sunday.

The Hoops have plenty to be cheerful about at the moment but one thing has been bothering some fans.
Scottish football welcomed the introduction of VAR back in October last year and Celtic have had their fair share of goals checked.
Some fans have become disgruntled with the new technology but Stiliyan Petrov feels there is a clear reason why his former side’s goals seem to always be checked.
Petrov has theory over VAR checks
Petrov responded to a fan on Twitter who vented their frustrations at VAR checking ‘every single’ Celtic goal.
The former Bhoys midfielder feels it is down to the way Postecoglou’s side plays, with many players operating off the shoulders of defenders.
He said: “There is definitely a higher possibility for Celtic goals to be checked constantly. Unfortunately the style of play and the movement of the players encourage it. Especially Kyogo, who plays off the shoulders and is constantly on the move But they do check pretty much all goals.”
It can be a frustrating wait for fans during the moments that a goal for their side is being looked over by VAR.

But Petrov makes a great point that due to Celtic’s style of football under Postecoglou, there will often be close calls due to the likes of Kyogo Furuhashi making smart runs in behind opposition defences.
The introduction of VAR certainly divides opinion, especially when you consider the way the Scottish FA has handled the roll-out. it can also suck the enjoyment out of the initial celebration of goals.
That being said, it’s still relatively new to Scottish football and fans will certainly have to get used to what can feel like a long wait for a goal to be given. The technology isn’t going anywhere.
