Celtic legend Stiliyan Petrov has highlighted the positive scenario facing Celtic over Kieran Tierney this summer.

So much has been made of the left-back’s potential move to Arsenal in recent weeks, with the majority of chat centering around how damaging his loss would be to Celtic.

However, Petrov isn’t sure it’s such a bad scenario for the Parkhead club. Speaking to the Sunday Post, the Bulgarian says it may just be time for Tierney to move on, and for both him and the club to benefit as a result.

“There comes a point in the careers of footballers when they weigh things up and make important decisions”, Petrov said.

“Kieran Tierney may be in that position in this transfer window.

“If he goes, then the club will get excellent money for him. If he stays, then they are holding on to a quality footballer.

“But these are the kind of matters that you want resolved as soon as possible. It’s important to know where you stand and what needs to be done.”

Petrov makes a pertinent point about Tierney

In all the chat about Tierney moving on, it is important to remember a few key points.

When the left-back does move on he will go for a record Scottish transfer fee. Celtic will get around £25million for Tierney’s services and that is a terrific amount for an academy graduate.

Every Celtic player is available at any point, for the right price. Tierney is no different and that will become clear if and when a buyer meets his asking price.

Celtic are in no rush to sell, but equally will agree when the price is right. The Scotland international isn’t going to play in Glasgow for all of his career and a move away is inevitable.

As long as Celtic get a good fee for his services and then re-invest some of the money in a replacement then fans will be content. That’s just where we are in the food chain now.
