Stiliyan Petrov is excited by the new era dawning at Celtic

Former Celtic player Stiliyan Petrov is excited by the prospect of the club improving and kicking on with recruitment this summer.

Understandably there is a fair amount of anxiety surrounding the scale of the rebuild needed at Celtic and the short timeframe in which to do it.

There’s still no manager in place never mind any sign of a new signing or two.

Off the back of a dreadful campaign, it’s not the most ideal time to be a supporter.

However, Petrov is already putting last season behind him and looking positively to the future.

Speaking on The Go Radio Football Show tonight, he said: “I hope we’re going to see an appointment very soon. I mean, the new season is just around the corner again. We’d like to see a bit of clarity, somebody who is willing to change things in a different way. And then we can move on.

“I’m actually excited. I’m excited to see what Celtic Football Club will offer going forward to challenge Rangers next year. Who’s going to be the new manager? New signings? This excites me. The more we wait, the more conscious we get.”

Celtic fans need jolting out of new era limbo

As we’ve discussed on the site already tonight, Celtic fans could be tasked with renewing season tickets despite not really knowing what is happening at the club.

Only Celtic can fix that and as Petrov says, everyone is hoping an announcement is on the way very soon.

In truth, I had expected it this week at some point. Though, I feel like I’ve been saying that since about… well, October.

Apparently whatever complications are occurring with Eddie Howe continue.

The waiting game goes on and I’m not sure I share the same level of excitement as Petrov. I fall more on the anxiety side of things right now.

Until a new manager is being unveiled at Celtic Park, I reckon many fans will feel the same.
