Celtic boss Neil Lennon has commented on Kieran Tieney’s current injury status at the club. The Hoops manager has disclosed that the left-back is not close to a first-team return.

The Celtic lynchpin is still recovering for a double hernia operation, and Lennon has admitted that it could be still some time before he returns to the first-team squad.

“He’s still injured” Lennon said, as reported by the Daily Record.

“It’s a slow burner”

“He is rehabbing. He had the double hernia, and he still has the osteitis pubis problem, so it’s a slow burner.”

That is not good news for the Hoops, as Tierney is one of Celtic’s most important players. However, the recent signing of left-back Boli Bolingoli-Mbombo means that Tierney’s absence may not be as badly felt as it has been in previous seasons.

Return may be awhile away yet

The use of the words ‘slow burner’ is a tad worrying, as it seems to indicate that Tierney’s return will not be any time soon.

Hopefully he will recover from his injury as the Champions League qualifiers continue. As for the injury affecting Tierney’s future with the club, teams will no doubt still be interested in signing the player even though he is injured.

His injury didn’t stop Arsenal from making a £15 million bid which was rightly turned down. For now though, the player will just be looking to get back to full fitness. When that will be, remains to be seen.
