“Stopped when I got out of primary school”; Ange’s latest Celtic response to yet another rivals question

Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou can’t seem to stop getting asked questions about Rangers at the moment but he’s not giving an inch.

Celtic are three points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership right now and setting the tone in the title race.

Despite that, players and staff seem to be getting consistently asked if they are bothered about what Rangers are doing in Europe or on another Premiership matchday.

Postecoglou has repeatedly said it’s not in his thinking, but the questions keep coming.

The latest was seemingly surrounding whether or not Postecoglou was hoping Rangers’ busy fixture schedule would give Celtic an advantage.

The Bhoys boss told The Scottish Mail on Sunday [20/03 print edition, page 152]: “What has been important during this whole process is making sure I don’t get derailed or distracted from what is really important. The things we can control happen behind these four walls. If we play our football and do it well, we don’t have to worry about anyone else or hope or wish for anything.

“I stopped hoping and wishing when I got out of primary school. It’s about making sure that we are planning to be successful, working hard and not being distracted by the things that others do.

“The group has proven for a long time now that they are really resilient. What the cup win did for us was give us a real impetus and give these players an appetite for more. Hopefully, we can get an opportunity to win some more silverware.”

Perhaps I’m wrong, but I don’t see many questions directed at Giovanni van Bronckhorst about Celtic, despite his team blowing a six-point lead and falling three points behind the Bhoys.

I’d expect all of this to only ramp up over the next couple of weeks, with derbies ahead and the stakes getting higher.

Postecoglou deals with it expertly and gives great Celtic-focused answers, but he must be growing weary of being asked questions everyone knows the response to.
