Former Celtic boss Gordon Strachan has some advice for Neil Lennon, ahead of the Hoops’ big trip to Pittodrie, making the comments whilst appearing on BT Sport.

Neil Lennon has some big decisions to make for the game, as the Hoops attempt to bounce back from defeats to Rangers and Milan. The team the manager picks will be very interesting. That is what Strachan has given Lennon some advice to take note of.

“The most goals I can get”

“‘I’d pick my strongest minded, and the most goals I can get in the team – strongest minded first, that’s the first thing you need when you’re going to Aberdeen, when you can see out their enthusiasm, then you can play” Strachan said in the aftermath of Celtic loss to Milan, whilst appearing on BT Sport (22/10/20, 22:01).

Let’s break Strachan’s remarks into two parts, dealing with ‘strongest minded’ first. Presumably he means players that have seen and done it all in the past for the Hoops, They won’t be overawed by what could be a very difficult trip to Pittodrie. The likes of Scott Brown and Callum McGregor should be in the starting line-up, by Strachan’s reckoning.

Now let’s examine ‘the most goals I can get’. That might be difficult for Lennon as Odsonne Edouard has to be a doubt as he deals with the aftermath of having Covid-19. Playing two strikers didn’t work out in the first-half against Milan, so that might not be on the table either.

Pick players that can influence game from midfield

However, it could mean that Lennon should pick players who can influence the game from the midfield going forward, the likes of Mo Elyounoussi and Tom Rogic. That could be an option for the Celtic manager.

It is interesting to get the thoughts of someone like Gordon Strachan. He did win three titles whilst managing Celtic just over 10 years ago.

Despite Celtic’s poor recent performances, the team has a great record at Pittodrie. Neil Lennon’s team should still be favourites to win the game. It will be intriguing to see if Lennon takes note of Strachan’s advice.
