Some Celtic fans are responding positively to a rumour spread by radio host Alan Brazil that Odsonne Edouard could be given the number seven shirt next season.

Brazil took to his Twitter account this week to share ‘a bit of news from Glasgow’ that the Frenchman could be handed the legendary Celtic number as part of a promotion involving a sponsor, presumably new kit manufacturers Adidas.

Brazil said a ‘magnificent seven’ could be on the way, meaning Edouard is set to stay in Glasgow for a ten-in-a-row bid.

Edouard was in sensational form prior to the suspension of the league season, scoring 27 goals and assisting 19 times in just 45 appearances (Transfermarkt).

Clearly keeping him for another season should be seen as a big priority for the club, with his current contract due to expire in 2022 and the pressures of his value as an asset potentially coming into play.

If we could somehow be motivated by the will of sponsors to hand him a bumper new contract, that’d be absolutely ideal and a real morale booster for the club ahead of a new season.

Clearly it’s all quite far away right now given the ongoing public health crisis, but fans have nonetheless allowed themselves to dream a bit about an Adidas and Edouard announcement.

Henrik Larsson, of course, made the shirt number legendary in the modern era at the Hoops, following in the footsteps of others such as Jimmy Johnstone.

Could Edouard be the next great to pull on the number?

These supporters have taken to Twitter to share their thoughts on it all over the last few days…
