Chris Sutton has called for a change in Celtic’s transfer policy. On the back of the Hoops’ 2-0 loss to Valencia, he believes that the club need to make permanent signings rather than loan deals.
“I realise they can’t spend £160m like Valencia did…but spending £8m or £10m at the right times for the key positions when the manager needs them might just help bridge some of the gap” he said, writing in the Daily Record.
“Loan moves are all right at the right time and I understand they can be great, but not all the time.”.

The Hoops made some high impact loan moves in January, with Oliver Burke, Timothy Weah and Jeremy Toljan all joining until the end of the season.

Those deals only last until the end of the season. It is unlikely that all three will return to the club next season.
Sutton’s point makes sense when you consider the Hoops will have to rebuild once more in the summer.

With Filip Benkovic set to leave and a host of players out of contract, work must be underway behind the scenes to bring players in during the summer.
Only time will tell if the signings are permanent ones, but it would greatly benefit Celtic if they were. Some more big money signings like Odsonne Edouard would banish the memory of Valencia and get fans excited for next season.
