Swansea City have made a major announcement concerning their director of football.
The EFL Championship club conducted business with Celtic in the summer transfer window having signed Irish international Adam Idah.
Idah did not expect to leave nor wanted to exit Celtic in the window, but decided to take the opportunity to sign for the Swans when they lodged a bid.
Celtic signed Idah for an initial £8.5m last summer, and managed to recoup £7m of that when selling to Swansea.
The club’s director of football Richard Montague would have played a part in signing Idah from Celtic, but Swansea have now announced he will be leaving.

Swansea City part ways with Richard Montague
Montague helped support Swansea’s recruitment processes, but the club want a change of direction and decided to part ways with him.
In a statement on the official Swansea City website, the club wrote: “Swansea City can confirm that director of football Richard Montague has left his role at the club.
“Richard joined the Swans in February 2025 from Notts County, where he took responsibility for overseeing football operations and supporting the club’s recruitment strategy.
“As part of an internal review of our football operations, the club has decided to move forward with a different approach ahead of the January transfer window.
“Global head of recruitment and analytics Adam Worth will lead on recruitment team and strategy, while CEO Tom Gorringe will oversee contract negotiations.
“Co-owners Brett Cravatt and Jason Cohen said: ’This was not a decision taken lightly, and we are extremely grateful for Richard’s work during a busy summer transfer window. However, it is vital that everyone at the club is aligned with our shared strategy. We are confident in the team we have in place, both on and off the pitch, to continue driving the club forward.’
“We would like to thank Richard for his work and professionalism during his time with Swansea City and wish him every success for the future.”
When could ex-Celtic striker Idah make his Swansea debut?
The international break followed Idah’s deadline day move to Swansea, and he went on to score for Ireland against Hungary.
He will be training with his new teammates for the first time this week in preparation for a potential EFL Championship debut.
7th placed Swansea host Hull City in the league on Saturday having accrued seven points from four games thus far.
