Celtic have been crying out for more goals this season and supporters think that a change in formation could be the answer.
Aside from Wilfried Nancy’s 3-5-2, the Hoops have largely played with a 4-3-3 ever since Brendan Rodgers’ first spell in charge.
Trying a new formation could be the way forward for Martin O’Neill, and 67 Hail Hail’s fans chose the way they could line up on TalkingPoints.
Which formation do you think suits Celtic best for the rest of the season? 🤨
4-3-3 has been the go-to this season, but should it be switched up?
Celtic fans largely in favour of the 4-4-2 formation
The 4-4-2 formation has become a dying art in the modern game as managers opt for the inverted full-back or one striker up front.
Every formation has its pros and cons, but many TalkingPoints users think it is the setup that would get the best out of the current crop of players.
One user wrote: “I’ve always been a fan of 4-4-2 but it’s practically unheard of these days.”
Another commented: “Been screaming for a 4-4-2 since Rodgers. Being a world class team is being able to change, not be the same predictable formation every single game, game in game out.”
A third said: “4-4-2 to begin with next week … the Dob’s doubled up on our full-backs with the long ball and won 2nd phase ball… we need to stop that, no stupid mistakes at the back and play on the half way line with the diagonal as our out ball.”

However, there were other sections of the Celtic fanbase that would actually like to see the 4-2-3-1 formation deployed instead.
This supporter said: “I’d like to see a 4-2-3-1 formation. It’s not a massive change but having someone closer to the striker will make life easier for them.”
Another added: “4-2-3-1 with the usual backline. Cal, Reo or Cx in front, Forrest and Tounekti on the wings and play Nygren just off Meada up front.”
How could Celtic line up in a 4-4-2 formation?
While the back four and goalkeeper positions are easy to fill, things aren’t as simple once you get into the attacking roles.
Callum McGregor will take one of the two central midfield spots and one of Arne Engels or Reo Hatate would probably start alongside him.
If Celtic were to play with a 4-4-2 formation, who would you pick in your starting XI?
Sebastian Tounekti takes the left midfield spot, and Hyunjun Yang on the right midfield.
The two striker positions are the most interesting. Tomas Cvancara and Junior Adamu would relish more support, but only one can start.
Alternatively, it feels harsh to leave Benjamin Nygren out when he is the top scorer, while Daizen Maeda continues to divide opinion on his place in the squad.
There are options aplenty, and that makes it a versatile formation to deal with.
