Celtic’s performances under Brendan Rodgers and Martin O’Neill were night and day this season.

Yes, many Celtic fans agreed with Rodgers calling out the board, but that doesn’t mean the squad wasn’t declining under his very eyes.

One of the players who could have left the champions of Scotland in the summer was struggling winger Yang.

For the majority of the time Yang has been in Celtic colours, he hasn’t been good enough, until Martin O’Neill arrived, and now he has started to show some light.

Which player has impressed you the most since Martin O’Neill took over?

Yang is ‘transformed’ after Martin O’Neill’s spell at Celtic

This was one of many reasons why Celtic fans wanted O’Neill to stay on because he was getting the best out of so many players.

Speaking on PLZ Soccer, Tam McManus noted how Celtic’s versatile winger has been ‘transformed’ by O’Neill, and now he will be hoping it continues under Wilfried Nancy.

“Celtic need strikers, they need firepower,” said McManus. “I think in the middle of the park, they are quite set.

“The wide areas. Maybe need a winger – a right winger, aye.

“I mean, Yang has been transformed under Martin O’Neill. I don’t know what’s happened to him.

“It just shows you. Different manager. A different voice coming in. He, all of a sudden, looks like a totally different player.

“Arne Engels as well. He has come to the fore. It just shows you, players, it might not work. You might not hit it off with some managers, but they certainly hit it off with Martin O’Neill and hope to continue it with Wilfried Nancy.”

Yang’s numbers under O’Neill

If you are any form of an attacking player at Celtic, you have to be a constant threat and produce the big numbers.

Look at Nicolas Kuhn last season, he scored 21 goals and supplied 15 assists last season, yet his drop in form during the second half of the campaign was called out.

That’s how ruthless and high the bar is at Celtic, and let’s see how Yang performs under Nancy.
