‘That’s my truth’ – Giorgos Giakoumakis shares whether he would ‘love’ to return to Celtic or not

Giorgos Giakoumakis was an unusual striker for Celtic.

Unusual in that, that even though he was the club’s top goal scorer in his first season at Celtic ahead of Kyogo Furuhashi, Giakoumakis just couldn’t nail down that elusive first team striker role.

The Greek striker eventually left Celtic for Atlanta United where Giakoumakis enjoyed a successful spell in the MLS.

Now at Mexican side Cruz Azul, the former Celtic striker has disclosed whether he would like to one day return to Paradise.

Giorgos Giakoumakis ‘would love to play for Celtic again’

With one Scottish Premiership title and two League Cups to show for his time at Celtic, Giakoumakis admits that he would ‘love’ to return to Celtic Park one day.

Giakoumakis told the Daily Record, “You want to set the fire? I would love to play for Celtic again. I don’t know if that’s a utopia or if it could happen again – but who wouldn’t?

“Even if you don’t know what it feels like to be there, when you’ve already been there, you know exactly what it means.

“So if someone played for Celtic and he was successful and you ask him a couple of years after, ‘Would you play again for Celtic?’ and he tells you no, he’s a stupid guy. He’s so dumb.

“So, yeah, I would love, love, love to wear this jersey again. I don’t know if this circle is done for me, but, yeah, that’s my truth.”

Giorgos Giakoumakis’ career since 2023 Celtic exit

Since leaving Celtic, Giakoumakis is yet to win another major domestic honour, but has his goal-scoring record fared in the US and Mexico compared to his time in Scotland?

It appears that Giakoumakis’ goals have dried up somewhat at Cruz Azul and at 30, his profile doesn’t match Celtic’s signing policy.

However, with Brendan Rodgers in the market for another striker, could the Celtic boss be tempted by Giakoumakis? It’s unlikely.
