The 3 class injury returns Celtic are due post-international break

As Celtic begin what we hope will be a smooth week of international football, it’s easy to forget the 3 brilliant injury boosts that await us immediately after the break.

Celtic will return to domestic action with a tricky-looking trip to Motherwell on Saturday afternoon. The Hoops will be looking to get more players back available for then as the injury crisis at Parkhead eases.

Ange Postecoglou will be working hard with those currently left behind at Lennoxtown. But he’ll certainly be spending Tuesday night keeping tabs on many of his stars who are in action and desperately hoping they’ll avoid injury.

But regardless of what happens then, Celtic are already due for 3 big injury returns immediately after the international break regardless.

The first of course being French centre-back Christopher Jullien. He’s been out of action since December 2020 with a knee injury that required surgery. It’s been a long road to recovery for the former Toulouse centre-back, who had to go back to France for a period to continue his recuperation.

However, Postecoglou confirmed in the Scottish Sun that he expects Jullien to be back training with the first-team after the internationals. Whilst that will then be followed by a period of fitness building, it’s massive to have him back amongst things once again.

Another player who is due to return to action after the internationals is Croatian right-back Josip Juranovic. When he picked up his hamstring injury 2 weeks ago, Postecoglou stated the player would be out for a “couple of weeks” [Alison Conroy].

Come Saturday’s game against Motherwell, it will have been 3 weeks since that news. Again, he’s another Postecoglou pinpointed as returning after the internationals [Scottish Sun].

Finally, of course, we have the return of left-winger Mikey Johnston. Whilst injuries combined with a loss of form have drained Johnston of opportunities and stock, his return is actually a huge one.

At last, Postecoglou will have another left-winger to choose from who can take some of the load off of Jota’s shoulders. Johnston returned to action against Livingston several weeks ago, before picking up a further knock that’s set him back another couple.

Postecoglou stated before the internationals that after a couple more weeks of training, Johnston should be available [Scottish Sun]. Come Fir Park, he’ll have had another 2 to get himself up to speed.

So whilst we all hope Tuesday’s games go as smoothly as possible, Celtic already appear in line for some big selection boosts regardless.

Hopefully, everything has gone to plan since the manager’s last update.
