The 3 games that could add millions onto Odsonne Edouard’s Celtic asking price

Odsonne Edouard was given a major boost yesterday, and the Celtic asking price for their French talisman could receive something similar too.

Edouard was, as expected, called up for France under-21s upcoming European Championship fixtures [Equipe de France]. Due to Euro 2021 being delayed, the group stages of the under-21 competition will take place this month. The final stages will then take place in the first week of June.

And, in a major boost for Edouard, he’ll get the opportunity to feature in those matches. From a Celtic perspective, that gives us a real opportunity to see if the Frenchman can boost his valuation ahead of the summer.

All three group stage matches will be played over the course of the next international break. France will take on Denmark, Russia, and Iceland before Edouard returns to Parkhead for the final two months of the campaign.

And if he shines in those matches, in a competition that’s famous for the number of scouts that attends it, Celtic could be in line for a major windfall.

Odsonne Edouard likely to increase Celtic asking price; France under-21 record is phenomenal

This is particularly exciting for Celtic given Edouard’s already sensational record for his country at youth level. Remember, Eddy has notched a stunning 15 goals in 10 games [Transfermarkt]. He’s netted in nine of his 10 games for Sylvain Ripoll’s youngsters.

If he nets against Denmark, Russia, and Iceland, he would be the talk of the tournament. Edouard has never come up against any of these sides throughout his time with the 21s. But he’s in a great place to do so and it’s a competition he’ll be itching to do well in.

Some supporters have been fed up this season with a perceived lack of interest from the Frenchman. There are fans who believe that he simply doesn’t try hard enough at Celtic. That he needs to be producing more against the lesser sides in particular.

But motivation won’t be a problem for Edouard this time around. His record at youth level combined with the fact he’ll know this is a chance to boost his valuation and bag a big move will ensure he’s firing. Granted, Celtic fans may look on with envy if he decides to show up given how poor he’s been this year.

With high-level interest already being shown in Edouard, it’s clear he’s in-demand regardless. But Celtic have to use these three games at the end of the month to ramp up his valuation. Because all of a sudden, not only would we have a talented player on our hands, but we would have justification to say we have France’s future first-choice striker in our ranks too.

All we can hope for is that Edouard turns up and increases the spotlight on him. Considering he’s heading into the final year of his contract, we need any valuation boost we can get.

In other news, the Celtic supporters couldn’t believe the ironic Brendan Rodgers remarks yesterday.
