There’s not a lot Neil Lennon could do that would appease Celtic supporters, but dismissing the pressure on him doesn’t help.
Look, we get it. We’re all Celtic fans here and yes, it does feel as though anything he says is ripped apart. That it’s used to beat him with just because of the situation he’s in. And make no mistake, it’s extremely difficult for the manager to go through a press conference or interview without attracting anger from the supporters.
But that’s certainly not the fault of the Celtic faithful. That’s the result of a man trying to cling onto a job he’s no longer earned. The result of a man who appears to have the biggest level of job security than anyone else in Scotland.
So when Lennon discusses how comfortable he feels in that gig, he’s going to attract more criticism.
After all, how can you feel so comfortable? How can you feel so settled knowing you’ve flushed the 10 away? That you’ve embarrassed us both at home and in Europe? How can you honestly believe that you’re still the man for the job and accept such mediocrity?
All of the above are questions that points that the manager doesn’t seem to want to cover. He hasn’t explained today why he feels so at ease with himself and his position.
Neil Lennon’s comfortability isn’t impressing Celtic supporters
Speaking on Celtic TV, Lennon said the following on the new year review:
“That’s natural every season regardless of whether the club announced a review in December. You’ll always be reviewed. I do agree with them that the performances and the on-field results have been disappointing. That’s something that we’re looking to rectify between now and the end of the season.

“It’s a new thing for me to go through a process like this. I haven’t experienced it before, so I can’t tell you the answer as to whether there’s going to be definitive answers that the supporters want or not.
“You’re never secure in your role as a manager anyway. Especially when you’ve been through difficult times. But yeah I’m quite comfortable with the way my position is at the minute.”
Lennon clearly doesn’t want to show that he’s feeling the pressure even if he is. But he’s quickly finding out that there’s nothing he can say that’s going to appease the supporters. If this was his response to Ian Bankier’s statement yesterday, it’s hardly an impressive one.
And that was proven in their reaction to his comments today. Once again, they feel disappointed and let down by a manager who continues to put himself above the club’s best interests:
