"The best in the league"; Big Sky Sports praise for Celtic hero
Former Celtic midfielder Scott Allan has branded current star Jota the best player in Scotland.
The 30-year-old was speaking before today’s Edinburgh derby live on Sky Sports, after been released by Hibs in the summer at the conclusion of his contract, also having spent four frustrating years in Paradise from 2015-2019, making very few appearances in that time.
Speaking on Sky Sports Football [11:20], Allan said of Jota: “For me, he’s the best player in the league. His numbers last season were incredible.
“He’s a player that when he gets on the ball, you know something is going to happen. He’s got that bit of arrogance on the ball that Celtic fans love.
“Another three assists yesterday. His numbers are incredible and I think he’s a player that’s only going to get better. If he keeps developing, then he’ll end up at one of the big teams across Europe.”
Fitting praise for early season standard-bearer
Jota has started the season in utterly electric form with a goal and three assists from his two league games for Celtic so far, and no doubt plenty more to come from the Portuguese as the fixtures pile up.
Few could contest that if there was a player to single out in Scottish football at the moment, Jota is the stand-out candidate. Given his form and the outlay paid, it would surely take an astronomical fee for Celtic to even entertain selling the winger.
Celtic fans will rightly contest Allan’s assertion that there are bigger opportunities to come. The 23-year-old will have his chance to show Europe’s elite what he’s made of in the Champions League group stage and has committed his future to the club in the summer.
Jota will surely have his say again next weekend when Celtic travel to Rugby Park to take on newly-promoted Kilmarnock.
